The Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022

Compensation for Over 30 Years of Water Contamination

From August 1, 1953 until December 31, 1987, Marines, contractors, employees, civilians, family members, and other service members who either lived or worked at Camp Lejeune were exposed to toxic substances in the drinking water.

Water from two water treatment plants on Camp Lejeune located at the Hadnot Point Treatment Plant and the Tarawa Terrace Treatment Plant were contaminated with harmful chemicals which was then provided to those on Camp Lejeune as drinking water.

The Tarawa Terrace Treatment Plant was contaminated with perchloroethylene (PEC), which is a chemical often used for dry cleaning. Marines are known for their crisp, clean uniforms so dry clean businesses thrive near Camp Lejeune. Years later it was discovered that a nearby dry cleaning company caused the contamination due to bad waste disposal practices. The Hadnot Treatment Plant was contaminated with trichloroethylene (TCE). There were numerous potential sources of TCE contamination at the Hadnot Plant, including industrial spills, underground tank leaks, and water disposal areas.

Regular and prolonged exposure to TCE and PEC have been linked to a variety of severe health conditions and cancers, including:

  • Liver cancer
  • Kidney cancer
  • Breast cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Bladder cancer
  • Cervical cancer
  • Lung cancer
  • Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
  • Leukemia
  • Miscarriages
  • Liver disease
  • Birth defects

If you suffered any of the above medical conditions after serving, living, or working at Camp Lejeune from 1953 to 1987, you could be legally entitled to claim compensation. You are significantly more likely to bring a successful case if you have the assistance of an experienced attorney. Call us today at (910) 557-8241
